The Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty marked the heyday of doucai porcelain, characterized by "warm and moist glaze and elegant colors (soft tones of red, green, yellow, etc.)." The fish and algae motif is a classic subject of Chenghua imperial kilns.

青花莲瓣纹/ 变体仰莲纹:盒底圈足上方常绘简化的青花仰莲纹(莲瓣轮廓用青花勾勒，内部无填色或仅用淡青渲染)，线条圆润，是明代中期官窑的标志性底足纹饰。

Blue-and-white lotus petal motif / variant upright lotus motif: above the ring foot at the base of the box, a simplified blue-and-white upright lotus motif is often painted (the outlines of the lotus petals are delineated in underglaze blue, with no filling color or only light blue wash inside). Featuring rounded lines, it is an iconic base decoration of imperial kilns in the mid-Ming Dynasty.
