This alum-red-glazed, gilded, famille-rose vase with flower-and-bird motifs and two handles, dating from the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, is a fine example of "small-sized vessel with elaborate craftsmanship" scholar's studio / ornamental porcelain of the Qianlong period. It features a small mouth, a long neck, and two handles — classified as a variant of the "package vase" or alternatively known as the "gall-shaped vase" — and its delicate, exquisitely proportioned form suggests it was intended as a tabletop display piece for scholar's studios.

The neck and foot are coated in vibrant alum-red glaze with meticulously applied gilding; the two ruyi-shaped handles, crafted in a raised-relief technique, represent a common auspicious decorative element on porcelains of the Qianlong era. The body is made of the characteristic "glutinous rice paste-like porcelain body," which is fine-grained and brilliant white.

The flowers (such as peonies) stand for "prosperity and wealth," while the butterflies connote "all things beautiful." Collectively, the composition conveys the auspicious message of "peace, prosperity and vibrant vitality."
