Blue and white flower vase (hu gu) with figure story pattern, Ming Dynasty(1368-1644)

Blue and white flower vase (hu gu) with boy herding ox design from the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (or Guangxu/Minguo imitations of Kangxi style) is a typical display vessel of Qing blue and white porcelain featuring "literati themes + elegant decorations."

As an exquisite work of Qing blue and white porcelain with literati themes, it combines "scarcity of craftsmanship + elegant artistic conception" and holds high collection value.

As a blue and white porcelain piece with the "boy herding ox" theme, it is a physical witness to the integration of literati culture and porcelain-making craftsmanship in the Qing Dynasty.

Main decoration: the vase is painted with the scene of a boy herding an ox — the boy sits on the ox's back, holding a short flute (or rein) with an innocent and naive expression. The background is adorned with landscape, banana leaf, and auspicious cloud patterns, creating an artistic conception like "willow trees by the painted bridge, the shepherd boy returning at dusk," which implicitly embodies the literati's sentiment of "pastoral leisure and an era of peace and prosperity."

Auxiliary decorations: the mouth rim and foot are adorned with cloud scroll patterns / lotus petal patterns (shallowly carved border decorations are visible on the mouth rim in the image), which not only outline the vessel's shape but also add the implication of "continuous auspiciousness."
